Day 2: Ask for Wisdom

Passage: James 1:5-8
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

It can be easy to confuse being “smart” with being “wise.” There are many who can rattle off Scripture and quote famous theologians, thinking that they understand everything that they need to about faith. Yet there are others who struggle to study the Bible in an academic way, but have such a deep connection to God that they know how He speaks to them and are able to stand firm in times of trial.

Wisdom is not just knowledge; it is the ability to apply God’s truth to everyday life. James tells us to ask God for wisdom, trusting that He gives generously in response when we seek Him. As you pray and fast today, ask God for discernment on decisions or situations where you need insight that only He can give. Trust God’s promise to provide wisdom without doubting. Remember: A heart fully surrendered to God will find the guidance it seeks.

  1. What area of your life requires God’s wisdom right now?

  2. How can fasting deepen your trust in God’s ability to guide you?

  3. Are there doubts or fears you need to surrender to fully trust God’s wisdom?
